PREVIEW: Cardiff City in the FA Cup

11th November 2023

By Owen Mason.

Cheltenham Town Ladies will be looking to kickstart their Women’s FA Cup campaign this weekend, as they face fellow Women’s National League Southern Premier side Cardiff City in the First Round Proper. (2pm Kick-off)

They make the trip to South Wales after a goalless draw with Chatham Town at Kayte Lane last time out.

A plethora of chances for Tom Davies’ side weren’t enough to gain all three points, although a second consecutive clean sheet was picked up by Aimee Watson in the Robinesses net following their 1-0 win at Billericay.

The Robinesses have played Cardiff City already this season, a 2-2 draw back in September, with goals from Emily Allen and Phoebie Poole. Cardiff currently sit in 10th in the WNL table on six points.

Cheltenham’s forays into the cup in recent years saw a second-round exit in 2021/22 to Southampton, and last season saw a 4-2 defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the first round.

The game is being played at Newport International Sports Village in Newport, NP19 4RA. Tickets for adults are £5, and are free for Under-16s.

For supporters unable to attend, live-action updates will be provided on the Club’s X Account (formerly Twitter) as well as Instagram.
