Derby Defeat For Development Squad

16th January 2017

Cheltenham Development 0-3 Cheltenham Civil Service

Match report by Manager Adam Ryman

Cheltenham Town development suffered a 3-0 defeat on Sunday to drop down a place in the league table.

The game started evenly with a lot of possession in the middle of the pitch but nothing really being creative. But the first chance of the game led to a goal.

The Civil Service forward picked up the ball on the half way line and just ran directly in a straight line. She powerfully beat two Cheltenham Town defenders and slotted the ball calmly into the bottom corner.

Development responded well and passed the ball well around the back and in to midfield. The final pass was always just lacking though and the decision making let them down on a few occasions. The score remained 1-0 going in to half time.

Development started the second half well enough but Civil Service seemed to have an extra zip to their passing and were playing better. The second goal came from the same scorer as the first. She again beat a few Development players and finished well off the post in to the far corner to double the lead.

The game seemed to lose urgency from then on in as Development tried to push higher and create opportunities but it wasn’t to be. Civil Service grabbed a third goal late on from a free kick that shouldn’t have been given to compound a hard day.

With five games to go, the players will have to pick themselves up and go again to try and finish the season strongly.
