PREVIEW: Chatham Town (A)

29th March 2024

By Owen Mason.

Cheltenham Town Ladies will be looking to build on their impressive win last time out as they make their last away trip of the season, when they face Chatham Town on Sunday (2:30pm kickoff).

Last Sunday, Tom Davies’ side were 4-2 winners over Billericay Town, at Kayte Lane. After early dominance, Charlie Taylor gave the Robinesses the lead with her second goal in three games. Leanne Bell levelled from the spot for the away side, however a quickfire double from Phoebie Poole and Emily Owen gave Cheltenham a 3-1 lead at the interval.

The deficit was halved through Honor Norman, however Emily Allen put the game beyond doubt, to give the Robinesses their first home win of 2024. The game also saw our highest home league attendance of the season, with 234 people witnessing the 4-2 victory.

This weekend they make the trip to Chatham Town, after their relegation to the Women’s National League Division One South East was confirmed after last weekend’s 5-0 loss to Ipswich Town, in front of a crowd of 10,173 people at Portman Road.

In the side’s last meeting back in November, the teams played out a goalless draw at Kayte Lane, with Robinesses top scorer Poole going close, hitting the bar from a curling free kick.

After this weekend, there are two games left for the Robinesses, with league leaders Portsmouth visiting Kayte Lane on Sunday April 21, and Hashtag United making the trip on the final day of the season, a fortnight later, on Sunday May 5.

The game is being played at the Bauvill Stadium, in Chatham, ME4 6LR. Tickets are £5 for adults and £2 for concessions, with Under-16s being free if accompanied by an adult.

For supporters unable to attend, live-action updates will be provided on the Club’s X Account (formerly Twitter) as well as Instagram.
