Robinesses Confirm First Signing

24th July 2023

Cheltenham Town Ladies have made their first acquisition ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Former Cardiff City Women striker Phoebie Poole becomes the first new face in camp, as the Club look to build on their history making 2022/23 season, which saw the Robinesses achieve their highest league finish.

After three successful years in the Adran Premiership, in which she chalked up an incredible 37 goals in just 45 appearances, Poole is excited at the prospect of trying her hand in the FA Women’s National League.

Expressing her delight at joining Cheltenham, she told Gloucestershire Live: “The way in which Tom, Meg (Harding) and Dan (Liddiard) want to play means it’s going to be simple to carry those into this team.

“Hopefully I can score more and assist more people. This club definitely caught my eye.”

Despite still living in Cardiff, Poole has still felt welcomed into the Club, commenting: “I’ve settled in really well, the girls are lovely, I’m very lucky to be learning off some really experienced players.

“Some of them can’t understand our Welsh accent, but hopefully that’ll come with spending more time with them!”

After earning 10 caps with Wales Under 19’s, Poole commented that she would love a call up to the senior squad, potentially at a future Women’s World Cup.

“There’s so many young girls watching now, dreaming of their country winning the World Cup.” Poole said. “Hopefully when Wales get there one day, it’ll be a proud moment for us Welshies, but even prouder if I’m on the pitch.”

Quizzed on who she would like to see lift the trophy, with this year’s tournament fully underway, she settled on Australia, admitting that she feels the United States of American will achieve the feat once again.

Cheltenham Town Ladies manager, Tom Davies, was excited to complete the signing of Poole, commenting: “Phoebie’s a huge talent and terrific goalscorer. She’s stepped up and led the way with her goal tally year on year.

“We’re delighted that she’s agreed to sign and be part of the next stage in our journey.”
