New Reserve Manager Appointed

9th June 2023

Cheltenham Town Ladies have announced a new head coach for their new Reserve Team.

Former Swindon Town Women’s head coach, James Lally, will take over the new side ahead of the 2023/24 campaign in the FA Women’s National League Reserve South-West division.

The UEFA B Licenced coach has previously managed Swindon Town Women Development between 2019 and 2022.

Speaking to Jon Palmer of Gloucestershire Live, James said he was looking forward to helping the Club produce new talent and players who can push on and challenge for a place in the First Team.

“Tom (Davies, first team manager) was pretty clear about the aim of this team and the level he wants them operating at, so it’ll be a good challenge helping prep players for tier three football,” Lally said.

“We will have a league title and at least one cup to play for and the overall aim is to give Tom selection headaches as the season goes on, with an eye on getting players to that level.”

The well-qualified Lally has degrees in neuroscience as well as skill acquisition and human movement.

“Before switching to teaching, I worked a bit in academia and research, mainly around how elite athletes and sportspeople make use of gaze, for example scanning, when making decisions in their sport,” he said.
