PREVIEW: Portsmouth Women

8th April 2023

By Kieran Neller.

Cheltenham Ladies are set to face Portsmouth Women at the Corinium Stadium in the National League Southern Premier Division.

The game is Cheltenham’s penultimate home game of the season, with the last coming the following weekend against Crawley Wasps.

The two sides faced each other earlier in the season at the Westleigh Park. In the first meeting, the Robinesses fell to a 2-0 loss to the title-contenders.

The fixture comes during a tough run of games for Tom Davies’ side. The side have not won a game since the beginning of February, where the side beat then-first place Oxford United 2-1 at the Corin-ium Stadium.

Pompey won their last two league games, with the side most recently coming out ahead in a 7-goal thriller against Billericay Town.

Cheltenham have taken three points from their last six games. The side sit 8th in the league. A win on Sunday would guarantee survival for the Gloucestershire outfit.

Portsmouth currently sit fourth place in the league, and are still capable of winning the title and pro-motion in a battle with Ipswich Town, Oxford United and Watford.

The Robinesses’ season comes to an end in three matches, with their final game of the being played away to title contenders Ipswich.

Cheltenham Town Ladies v Portsmouth Women takes place at The Corinium Stadium, Cirencester (postcode: GL7 1HS) at 14:00 on Sunday, 9th April.

Tickets will be available at the gate on matchday, costing £6 for adults and £3 for concessions.
