PREVIEW: Gillingham Women FC

1st April 2023

By Kieran Neller.

Cheltenham Towb Ladies FC face Gillingham WFC at the Corinium Stadium in the National League Southern Premier Division.

The game comes after a short hiatus for the Robinesses. Last time out the side fell to an injury time winner from London Bees on 18 March.

The Robinesses and The Gills faced each other earlier in the season at the Bauvill Stadium. Despite earning a penalty in the 70th minute, skipper Emily Owen’s goal wasn’t enough to overcome Gillingham’s early two-goal advantage.

The game comes after a difficult run of results for Tom Davies’ side. The Robinesses have taken two points from their last six games, but came close to breaking the recent run of poor form against London Bees.

Gillingham have collected seven points in their last five games, with two wins coming against Cheltenham as well as relegation contenders Plymouth Argyle.

Gillingham’s most recent result was a defeat to league leaders Ipswich, where a goal from Tractor Girls midfielder Anna Grey decided the game.

Cheltenham sit in 8th in the league table, with a four point cushion between themselves and London Bees beneath them and sit seven points above the relegation zone.

The visitors currently sit in 6th place; however, they have played a game more than the Robinesses.

The Gloucestershire side enter the run-in with a series of games at the Corinium Stadium, before their final game of the season where they are away to title contenders Ipswich Town.

Cheltenham Town Ladies v Gillingham WFC takes place at The Corinium Stadium, Cirencester (post-code: GL7 1HS) at 14:00 on Sunday, 2nd April.

Tickets will be available at the gate on matchday, costing £6 for adults and £3 for concessions.
