Former West Bromwich Albion Women striker, Emma Congrave is the latest player to join Cheltenham’s ranks ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Daughter of Kidderminster Harriers and Gloucester City forward, Richard Congrave, the young striker is no stranger to Gloucestershire, having been a key figure for Hartpury College during her spell, while also playing for the Baggies.
Starting out with Birmingham City’s Regional Talent Centre, she moved to West Brom at the age of 15, winning the Manager’s Player of the Season award before making her First Team debut at 17.
After tasting Tier 3 football in the FA WNL Northern Premier with WBA Women, Congrave decided to make the jump for Cheltenham’s history making season.
“I was approached by Cheltenham over the summer and decided it was time to explore a new opportunity,” she told Gloucestershire Live’s Jon Palmer.
“The team and staff have been very welcoming and friendly making my transition easier. Everyone has the same aims and desires for the team so I am really excited to be a part of it.”
“My aim this season is to help the team with the transition to tier three football,” she continued.
“I also aim to improve and develop myself as I am only 19 and believe that I have not reached my full potential.”
A technically gifted striker, Congrave is also a versatile attacker who can also operate strongly in wide areas, as well as the centre of midfield, a position she currently plays for the University of Worcester, where she’s studying a Sports Development and Coaching degree.
Manager Tom Davies welcomed the new striker, commenting “Emma’s someone I’ve been aware of and trying to bring to Cheltenham for a while now, so I’m glad we’ve finally convinced her to play here and we’re hoping she can get back to her best here.”
Cheltenham Town Ladies travel to Wales to take on Abergavenny Women FC this weekend (July 31) as they continue preperations for their inaugural FA Women’s National League Southern Premier campaign.
