Robins Make First Summer Signing of 2022

25th July 2022

Cheltenham Town Ladies FC have completed their first incoming summer transfer of the summer, ahead of their maiden voyage in Tier 3.

Former Southampton FC and Yeovil midfielder, Charlie Taylor, joins the ranks after a stint in America.

The 20 year old midfielder started out at Oxford United’s youth system before making the jump to Southampton FC’s Regional Talent Centre at Under 14’s level. She would also gain international experience during this time, representing Wales against Northern Ireland at U17’s.

She would eventually go on to play in the Women’s Super League for Yeovil Town, demonstrating some calm and technical ability beyond her young years. After spending some time with Southampton Women FC in 2019, she made a switch across the Atlantic Ocean to represent Washburn University in Kansas, playing in the NCAA Division Two before returning to Britain.

“I knew people who have links with the club which enabled me to get in contact with Tom (Davies, manager) and send him some video footage which I had of myself playing,” Taylor told Jon Palmer of Gloucestershire Live.

“I’ve only just returned from America after making the decision to take a gap year and from what I have experienced so far, Cheltenham are a friendly and talented team. They seem to know what they want to accomplish this season and I am excited to be a part of it.

“My aim for this season is to help the team consolidate itself in a new league. I also aim to develop as a player as I am still young and learning. As a player, I would describe myself as tough but elegant. I like getting stuck in and being competitive, however I also pride myself in being calm on the ball and not overthinking.”

Tom Davies was pleased to welcome his newest signing, telling the Club’s media staff “I’m delighted to bring Charlie in, she’s come here in top condition and as a strong, physical midfield technician. It’s exciting to see what she can do at this level and alongside our current group.”

Cheltenham Town Ladies start their first season in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier on August 21, welcoming Plymouth Argyle to Gloucestershire (2pm kick-off). For a list of the Robin’s FA WNL Southern Premier fixtures, click here.
