26th September 2019

The 1887 Red Army are delighted to be involved in the Cheltenham Town Ladies FC Supporters’ Day against Maidenhead United Women this Sunday (2pm kick off).
The 1887 Red Army are a growing Cheltenham Town FC supporters group whose aims are to both improve atmosphere at matches, and to also get involved in the wider community with events just like this one.

The ladies side have been on the up over the last couple of seasons with really positive results on the pitch, attendances steadily increasing, and also growing their connections with the men’s club. We as a group wanted to get involved in a Supporters’ Day to try and make a positive atmosphere at the game as the CTLFC have made a very good start to the league season and deserve the support!
It would also be fantastic to get as many supporters to the match as possible and to break the attendance record that currently stands at 142!

We are also hoping that the positive atmosphere will encourage more fans to return to the ladies’ team and support a fantastic local club. It’s always a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at the DN Fire Stadium and any supporters thinking of making their first visit to watch the ladies will feel very welcome!
The match is FREE to any Cheltenham Town season ticket holder or Robins Trust member which is a fantastic initiative put in place by the Ladies club and deserves to be supported. Why not even bring along friends and family to the match this Sunday? It’s sure to be a tremendous match given the ladies’ fantastic start to the league campaign.

The 1887 Red Army are always looking at different ways of making a positive impact not just at Cheltenham Town matches but also in the community and with local charities. Since forming in July, we have set up a singing section at Whaddon Road to improve atmosphere which has received some fantastic feedback from fans and players and brings together just over 100 fans at each match which is growing every week.  We have raised over £1700 for the Justin Edinburgh 3 Foundation and £400 for a Justin Edinburgh tribute flag, which was handed over to Leyton Orient to keep in honour of their late manager that passed away this year. Along with being involved in the Supporters Day this Sunday, we have also just announced a sleep out event at Whaddon Road in November to raise vital funds and awareness for Cheltenham Open Door who are a local charity who do fantastic work helping the homeless and vulnerable in the local area.

If anyone would like to get involved with the 1887 Red Army, whether you’re interested in joining the singing section, any ideas for future events/initiatives we could get involved in or if you’re interested in taking part in the sleep out in November, please get in contact with us. We are on Twitter @1887RedArmy or you can drop me an email, James.ap.robinson@gmail.com.

The 1887 Red Army look forward to seeing as many faces as possible at the match this Sunday. And don’t forget to grab your red and white colours, your CTFC banners, and your singing voices, to cheer the ladies on to a big three points!
Come On You Robins!
