Bumper Crowd At Petersfield Park As Ladies Lose

7th November 2017

There was a definite feeling of deja vu for Cheltenham Town Ladies when they faced Brislington LFC at Petersfield Park for the second time in as many weeks. And it was another bumper crowd at the Saracens’ ground with the SW Division’s second highest attendance of the day.

And the outcome was an almost identical losing scoreline.

The 1-4 result wasn’t a fair reflection of the game and certainly didn’t do the Ladies justice. Cheltenham didn’t enjoy the rub of the green – quite a claggy surface after Saturday’s rain- and were also left ruing a number of missed chances.

The Ladies started the game positively with Sally Butterfield, Ellie Briscoe and Louise Fensome all going close and it was against the run of play when Brislington scored not one but two goals in quick succession.

Half time 0-2.

The second half started in the same vein with Cheltenham creating opportunities but being unable to find the net and again they paid the price midway into the second half when Brislington scored a third.

Louise Fensome (pictured) pulled one back for the Ladies before an all important Cheltenham second was disallowed for offside. Shortly after the Robins also missed an open goal with a wayward header

Annabel Davies and Sam Morris replaced Kayleigh Hateley and Suze Berry but in the dying moments Brislington added their flattering fourth.

Captain Jen Brown-Wealls said: “The squad are particularly frustrated. We were the better side for large parts of this game but failed to capitalise on that supremacy. We were unlucky with the second ball which always seemed to favour our opponents but if you don’t take your chances….”

Full time: 1-4

Attendance: 47

Squad: Panniers, Walters, Wiltshire, Bull, Brown-Wealls, Hateley (Davies), Berry (Morris), Fensome, Briscoe, Hitchcox, Butterfield.
