Cheltenham Beaten By Strong Keynsham Side In First Home Game

Cheltenham Town Ladies were beaten by a strong Keynsham Town team in their first home game of the season.

A crowd of 62, the largest in the South Western division,  gathered at Petersfield Park in warm conditions and striker Kerry Bartlett, who signed for Cheltenham four years ago but was unable to ever play due to injury, was soon heavily involved for the visitors.

The Keynsham forward capitalised on a misplaced back pass in the fifth minute, but she was denied by Bec Panniers’ save.

The opening goal arrived in the 27th minute as Cheltenham’s overworked defence was finally breached.

Bartlett finished neatly and it remained 1-0 at half-time.

Katie Cook’s shot took a heavy deflection on its way past Panniers in the 57th minute as Keynsham opened up a two goal lead.

The third was also deflected, this time from a Justine Lorton strike in the 62nd minute.

Robins boss Graham Fletcher sent on fresh legs, with first Annabel Davies and then Rhianna Jamieson and Holly Kay (pictured) joining the action and the substitutes made a positive impact.

Keynsham added a fourth in the 74 minute, with former top flight player Bartlett adding her second of the afternoon with another accurate finish.

Cheltenham had a real go late on and were unfortunate not to pull one back.

Ella Hitchcox set up Kay in the 78th minute, but her attempt was off target.

Davies then fed Kay, whose cross was nearly bundled over the line at the far post, but Keynsham scrambled the ball clear in the 82nd minute.
