Fletcher delighted with hard-earned victory over Basingstoke

Manager Graham Fletcher has heaped praise on Cheltenham Town Ladies following their 2-1 win over Basingstoke Ladies at Petersfield Park.

In their first game for over a month, two first half goals was enough to give the Robins a crucial victory, with Fletcher pleased to resume action with a hard-earned win.

I’m delighted with the overall performance today,” said Fletcher.

“The pitch was horrendous, but I feel that we really took the game to them and we could’ve been three or four goals up by half-time.

“We took the goals really well, and we passed the ball around nicely, especially in the first half. In the second half, Basingstoke came back into the game and it was survival of the fittest at times, but in the end we did well and got the three points.”

Following a pleasing start to 2017, Fletcher is hopeful that Cheltenham can continue their decent run of form for the rest of the season.

“We’ve been training a lot but the conditions haven’t helped. It was a good game to watch and I think both sides coped well with the pitch,” said Fletcher.

“We need to keep picking as many points as we can. The West Ham game was a real turning point for us, we’ve gone on a very good run and we need to keep it up for the rest of the season.”
