Fletcher proud of Cheltenham Ladies despite cup heartbreak

Manager Graham Fletcher has heaped praise on Cheltenham Town ladies following their 2-1 defeat to West Ham at Petersfield Park.

The Hammers scored a last-gasp winner to knock the Robins’ out of the Premier League Plate, but despite defeat, Fletcher couldn’t have been more proud of the ladies’ efforts.

“I thought that was probably our best performance of the season to date, I’m very proud of the girls,” said Fletcher.

“West Ham are a very good side. They play in the division above us and they pass the ball really well, but they will feel they got out of jail today.

“We battled hard and on the balance of play, we should’ve won the game but it wasn’t meant to be.”

With fixtures in the league coming thick and fast in the next few weeks, Fletcher is confident that the Robins’ can build on their performance and claim some crucial points.

“We’re better than what our results are showing, we’ve been putting a lot of effort in and now we have to transfer this performance and start winning a few games in the league.

“They’re a great bunch of girls and they work so hard for me and I can’t ask for anything more from them.”
