Fletcher frustrated with disappointing result for Cheltenham Ladies

Manager Graham Fletcher was left to rue a poor first half display as Cheltenham Ladies fell to a 3-1 defeat to Brislington Ladies at Hartpury Sports Academy.

A slow start from the Robin saw Brislington ease into a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time. However, a spirited second half display saw Cheltenham take the game to the opposition before Brislington finished the game off in the closing stages with a clinical counter attack.

Despite being pleased by the response of his players, Fletcher admits they left themselves with too much to do in the second half.

“It’s disappointing,” said Fletcher. “We’ve been on a good run recently and but we started the game really sloppy and we conceded poor goals today.

“We know we have the quality. We need to get the mentality right from the start. We let them bully us in the first half but once we got into our stride, it was a completely different game.”

Despite the match being moved from Petersfield Park to Hartpury Sports Academy due to a waterlogged pitch, Fletcher refused to blame the unfamiliar 3G pitch for their poor first half performance.

“Both sides found the conditions difficult, it felt like the game was going at 100 miles an hour.

“Eventually we got into it and made a game of it and we created a couple of really good chances but it wasn’t to be. It’s a disappointing result but we played much better in the second half.”
