PREVIEW: MK Dons Women (A)

25th January 2024

By Owen Mason.

Cheltenham Town Ladies will be looking to get their first points of 2024 this weekend, as they visit MK Dons, on Sunday (2PM Kick-off).

Two straight defeats has been the start to 2024 for Tom Davies’ side, as in their last outing they got narrowly beat 3-2 by Plymouth Argyle at Kayte Lane, a carbon copy of the reverse fixture at Coach Road in September.

Emily Owen opened the scoring for the Robinesses, and they led until just after half-time as a goal from Fern Orchard and a double from Charlotte Whitmore put Argyle into a 3-1 lead.

Despite a late flurry from Cheltenham, which also saw Phoebie Poole net her ninth goal of the season to halve the deficit, it wasn’t enough to get any points from a very windy afternoon at Kayte Lane.

The Robinesses travel this weekend to face MK Dons, who they beat in a 4-3 thriller at Kayte Lane back in September, as a 3-1 deficit was overturned in the last 10 minutes of the game, with goals from Poole, Owen and Henna Butcher sealing the three points in dramatic fashion.

Davies’ side have also been unbeaten away from home since October, with wins over Billericay, Cardiff City and Hashtag United in that time.

The Dons are currently in sixth place, three points ahead of The Robinesses, albeit having played two games fewer. Charlie Bill’s side’s last outing was a narrow 3-2 defeat to Hashtag United, three weeks ago.

The game will be played at Fairfield Sports Hub, in Milton Keynes. (MK9 1EN) Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for under-17s.

For supporters unable to attend, live-action updates will be provided on the Club’s X Account (formerly Twitter) as well as Instagram.
