Robinesses Sign Bridgwater Defender

9th August 2023

Bridgwater United defender Charlotte Buxton becomes the latest signee for Cheltenham Town Ladies as they prepare for their second season in the FA Women’s National League Premier South.

The 23 year old brings a good level of experience to the Club, having played in the FA WNL Southern Premier last season with Bridgwater having been with the club when it participated in the Women’s Super League under the Yeovil branding.

Speaking to Gloucestershire Live, she explained how her experiences at higher levels have impacted her development.

“Understanding how professional teams are run, working hard to get a place. (in the team) That’s definitely motivated me to be the best player I can.”

Buxton is not the first player to join from Bridgwater, with former teammate Ffion Llewellyn signing only a few days prior. She believes having a familiar face in the group has allowed her to settle in much faster.

“It’s been amazing!” She said.

“The girls have made it really easy, and they’ve made me feel a big part of the club already.

“I feel like they’re on the same level as me, it’s been the most comfortable place I’ve joined. I really like the style of play, and me and Tom (Davies, manager) and the management get on really well, so it’s an exciting time.”

Buxton believes the Club is in a good place to build on last season’s history making campaign which saw the Club record its highest ever league finish.

“I think we’re going to do well this season! I’d hope near the top, obviously I would say that, but I feel we have a really strong squad here, so I’m really looking forward to starting the season.”

Manager Tom Davies was quick to praise his new signing, commenting “Bux is someone we’ve been interested in for a while now and we’re delighted that she’s come aboard.

“She’s someone who slots straight into the group both as a footballer but also a person, and we’re looking forward to her impact within this current group and our collective ambitions.”

Cheltenham Town Ladies’ FA Women’s National League Southern Premier campaign kicks off on August 20 with a trip to Portsmouth Women (2:00PM kick-off). For a list of the Robinesses competitive fixtures for 2023/24, click here.
