Llewellyn becomes a Robiness

7th August 2023

Cheltenham Town Ladies have boosted their defensive ranks ahead of the 2023/24 season with the signing of Bridgwater United centre-back FFion Llewellyn.

Llewellyn joins Cheltenham after a spell with the Somerset club who disappointingly finished 11th in the Women’s National League Southern Premier last season, suffering relegation alongside Crawley Wasps, who now operate as Haywards Heath Town Women.

Former Bridgwater United captain Llewellyn is excited about the switch to Gloucestershire, and feels a few familiar faces from some of her previous clubs will help her embed into her new Club.

“I know a few of the players here, from previous clubs and university teams.” She told Gloucestershire Live.

“Also playing against [Cheltenham] last year, you could clearly see where they’re trying to get to. So, this is probably the best decision for me right now. I’m looking forward to getting started!”

On gelling with the team and management during pre-season, Llewellyn said: “It has been really nice. Since day one the girls have been so welcoming, even the new faces. I felt at home with them all.

“The management have been easy to have conversations with, it’s a really nice atmosphere.” The defender explained.

Llewellyn faced her new Club twice last season as they toughed out two draws, a 1-1 at the Corinium Stadium in October before a thrilling 3-3 at Fairfax Park.

She looks forward to being able to assist some of the younger players in the squad, using her previous experiences at FA WNL Southern Premier.

“I’ve been in this league for a few years now, so I can bring that experience.” She commented.

“It’s just about being a leader, taking responsibility. Everything will be a surprise, but it’ll be good to have that aspect of knowing what’s to come as well.”

Describing her style of play, she hopes to use her physicality and leadership to be a vital cog in the Club’s defence.

“I’m quite strong I think! I would say I’m pretty much like a brick wall. I can be quite vocal, being a leader from the back. This season I’ll make sure I push myself, making sure week in and week out I’m giving 100 per cent, and hopefully getting this club where it needs to be!” Llewellyn concluded.

Robinesses boss Tom Davies was very pleased with the move, stating: “Ffion’s been consistent strong performers over the last couple of seasons at this level and we’re delighted she’s signed.

“She’s absolutely the right fit for us, in how she defends aggressively, plays out with composure and what she brings to the group as a person.”

Cheltenham Town Ladies begin their 2023/24 FA WNL Premier South campaign on August 20 with a trip to Portsmouth Women (2:00PM kick-off). For a complete list of competitive fixtures for the coming season, click here.
