Cheltenham Town Ladies have added Bristol City’s Megan Lewis to their squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The former City academy midfielder has also had academy experience with Women’s Super League giants Manchester United, something she considers vital to her development as a player.
“It’s been good. Last season especially I got a lot of minutes, any chance we could we learned from the WSL players around us.” She said, speaking to Gloucestershire Live.
Lewis is no stranger to the FA Women’s National League, having also previously played for Cardiff City Ladies as a teenager.
“I was only 16 at Cardiff, and then I’ve had two seasons at WSL clubs, in that time I’ve gotten more minutes. I feel more composed now, and can bring a lot more than what I did when I was younger.
“I saw Cheltenham got promoted the season before last, and finished solidly last season. So it’ll be good to help them progress further than the last two seasons.”
Lewis has gelled well wit hthe team and staff during pre-season, and is already looking forward to the season ahead. Commenting on her personal goals going into the new season, she said:
“The team has a good mix of senior talent, and youth talent which works really well. We’ve had a few pre-season games together and you can see with a few more games [the relationship] will be even better.
“I want to try and get as many minutes as I can, and help the team in whatever way that is. I do want to score some goals, I don’t know how many, hopefully a few!”
Lastly, she described herself as a player, she feels she can contribute in both attacking or defensive roles. Explaining “I’m quite attacking and skilful, but also pretty solid in defence when you need me. I don’t stop running, and I’m quite a good communicator on the pitch, I’m always bringing the team up.”
