FA Women’s National League Cup Determining Round Draw

20th July 2023

Cheltenham Town have been informed of who they will face in their first taste of cup football for 2023/24.

The FA Women’s National League Cup/Plate is a knock-out tournament for teams in Tier 3 and 4 of the women’s football pyramid. However, teams are not eliminated at this point of the competition. The Determining Round is used to sort teams into which competitions they will proceed with later in the campaign. Winners of the Determining Round will enter in the League Cup, while the losers will enter into the League Plate.

In a fixture scheduled for 27 August 2023, Cheltenham will welcome Maidenhead United Women of the FA WNL Division One South-West to Kayte Lane (2:00pm) to decide which path they will take.

The Robinesses made history in 2021/22, as they reached the Semi-Finals for the first time in the Club’s history, where they lost out to eventual winners, Nottingham Forest Women, 3-0 at the Corinium Stadium.

Last season saw Cheltenham fall 4-2 to AFC Wimbledon in the Determining Round before reaching the Quarter Finals of the League Plate. After receiving a Bye in the Plate’s Preliminary Round, The Robinesses advanced easily, crushing AFC St. Austell 9-1 in the First Round and Cambridge United 4-2 in the Second.

They would miss out on consecutive Semi-Final appearances in the harshest fashion, losing on penalties against Crawley Wasps.

The fixture will be the first competitive fixture for Cheltenham Town Ladies in their new home of Kayte Lane, with the first home league fixture against London Bees taking place the following weekend (September 3).
