PREVIEW: Ipswich Town Women

Cheltenham Ladies are set to face the Tractors Girls in the last game of the Women’s National League Southern Division season.

The game is the last of Cheltenham’s first season in Tier Three after winning the 2021/22 Women’s National League Division One South West title.

When Ipswich met the Robinesses at the GFA Headquarters, the visitors walked away 2-0 victors after a hard-fought affair in the rain. Goals from Maria Boswell and Bonnie Horwood were the difference after 90 minutes.

Cheltenham have taken four points from their last five games. After a long spell without a win, Tom Davies’ side earned three points last time out against a relegated Crawley Wasps.

Two quickfire goals from attacker Henna Butcher (pictured) in the first half put Cheltenham ahead. Despite a goal to the visitors through Oana-Elena Negrea, Amy Wathan’s goal from outside the box put the game to bed.

Ispwich haven’t lost a game since January and have only dropped points against leaders Watford in a 1-1 draw at the beginning of February.

Despite the impressive form, Ipswich are only level with Watford if they win their game in hand, but they find themselves significantly behind on goal difference.

The Robinesses have already guaranteed their place in the competition for the 2023/24 season after an impressive start to life in the league including a 2-1 win over title contenders Oxford United.

Cheltenham sit 8th in the league, any result on Sunday will not change their position unless the side gain 11 goal difference on 7th place Gillingham.

The game comes as a chance for the newly promoted outfit to end the impressive season on a high.

Ipswich Town Women v Cheltenham Town Ladies takes place at The AGL Arena, Suffolk (postcode: IP11 9HT) at 14:00 on Sunday, 30th April.
