New Goalkeeper Joins The Ranks

1st August 2022

In Cheltenham Town Ladies’ fifth summer signing, former Keynsham Town goalkeeper, Shawna Hannam joins ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The 21 goalkeeper, who has also had spells at Bristol Rovers Women and Larkhall Athletic Women has been brought in as part of Cheltenham’s first campaign in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier and will provide Aimee Watson a stern contest for a First Team place.

“Tom approached me a few months ago about recruiting a second goalkeeper and I am here to support the girls wherever I can and step up when I’m needed,” Hannam said, speaking to Jon Palmer of Gloucestershire Live. “I am ready to gain experience from Aimee and improve in any way I can.”

Hannam, who lives in Bristol, started playing football at the age of 10 with Whitchurch Girls before signing with Bristol Academy Centre of Excellence at 14, followed by appearances representing Gloucestershire FA. She would eventually join Keynsham and have other spells at Bristol Rovers and Larkhall.

“I am really looking forward to the season,” she told Jon Palmer. “I’m looking to gain more experience in Tier Three and to boost my game in any way. I feel I am confident at the back and a supportive, team player.

“It’s a great set-up at Cheltenham. The girls are so friendly and everyone gets on very well. All the staff are amazing and very supportive.”

Outside of football, Hannam works as a full-time mobile mechanical engineer. She also plays cricket during the summer months and enjoys watching Cardiff Devils ice hockey.
