Robins Make “Huge” Signing

13th January 2022

Cheltenham Town Ladies are proud to announce one of the biggest signings in the club’s history, as Emily Owen puts pen to paper.

In a signing described as a coup by manager Tom Davies, defender Owens brings an invaluable amount of previous higher level experience, including time with Wolves, Aston Villa, Stoke City, Sheffield, Derby and, most recently, West Bromwich Albion Women.

Speaking with Jon Palmer of Gloucestershire Live, Owen commented “I have been lucky enough to have had quite a long career. My aim now is to definitely help and be a part of Cheltenham’s promotion push as I believe they are the team to do it.”

“Beating West Brom (in the National League Plate in December) was a great achievement and well deserved so if we carry those winning ways on until the end of the season, then the team’s target has been smashed.”

“I am very calm on the ball and also feel I can read the game very well due to my past experience,” she said.

Manager Tom Davies was delighted to capture the organised defender, telling Jon Palmer:

“Em’s a huge signing for the club and one that highlights our ambition and progress on and off the pitch in order to attract successful tier three footballers,” Davies said.

“I’ve worked with Em previously at Stoke and know first hand what she will bring to this group.

“Given the time of year and the importance of the remaining games, Em’s ability and experience will no doubt be a huge boost for everyone at the club.”

Owen, along with fellow recent signing, Holly Reed, joins her Robins teammates in training as the club prepares for their local derby with Swindon Town Women on Thursday January 20 (7:45pm kick-off).
