Welsh International Striker Joins Cheltenham Town Ladies

6th August 2021

Cheltenham Town Ladies FC registered signing number eight of the summer, as Amy Wathan joins from FA Women’s Championship side Coventry United Women.

The 27 year old former Cardiff City Ladies and Yeovil Town Women’s striker brings a fantastic level of experience with her, including performing on the international stage with Wales Women. She also has a Futsal FA Cup trophy to her name, and in 2019 was the FA Women’s National League’s leading goal scorer.

Cheltenham Town Ladies’ defender, Sammy Hallsworth, is a former teammate of Wathan and hand a large role in bringing the striker to the club.

“I’ve known Sammy for years and she told me all about Cheltenham and invited me to go to pre-season,” Wathan said, speaking to Gloucestershire Live’s Jon Palmer

Wathan, who brings a strong work ethic with a fierce pressing game and a keen eye for goal, is familiar with some of the Cheltenham dressing room and is optimistic ahead of the upcoming campaign.

“I went to university with a few of the players and I’ve played with Sammy at clubs in the past. I’m now looking to get a good run of games after a stop start 18 months due to the pandemic.”

Cheltenham Town Ladies start their 2021/22 FA Women’s National League campaign next Sunday (August 15), welcoming Southampton Women to Cirencester’s Corinium Stadium (2pm kick-off).
