Former Cheltenham Town Ladies midfielder Annabel Davies returns to her original club, two years after departing the club.
Davies, a youth product of The Robines Ladies, spent a season at Cardiff Met Women, Wales’ most successful women’s football club, before moving back into the English Women’s Pyramid with FA WNL Southern Premier outfit, Keynsham Town, with both seasons being disrupted due to the Covid19 pandemic.
“I’ve only got positive things to say about my first spell,” Davies told Gloucestershire Live’s Jon Palmer.
“It was the first club that I had signed for as a youth player and I developed all the way through. It was the club that brought me into playing women’s senior football, so it has played a big part in my football journey so far and gave me a lot of experience in women’s football as a young player.”
The creative midfielder is pleased with the progress the club has made in her short time away, believing the club is making great strides.
“I also realise how different the club is now compared to before, with different management and players and ambitions and I think the club has come a long way and I’m excited to become a part of it.”
“I wanted to be where I could enjoy playing again and get good minutes after the disruption of Covid on the previous season. I had Cheltenham in my head for a while as I had heard how much it had developed and it was close to home.”
“I want to be affecting games in a positive way, whether that be goals or assists,” she said.
“As a whole team I would like us to push on for promotion this season and win as many games as possible. I think we’ve got a strong set of players and can battle against some of the top teams in our league.”
Cheltenham Town Ladies kick off their FA Women’s National League campaign on August 15, hosting Southampton Women at Cirencester Town’s Corinium Stadium.
