Larkhall Athletic Women Match Preview

3rd October 2020

Cheltenham Town Ladies make the trip to Plain Ham in Bath tomorrow to take on Larkhall for their second game in four days (2pm kick-off).

The Robinesses look to get back to winning ways and putting Thursday night’s defeat behind them, with manager Tom Davies not looking to change the team’s on-field approach.

Following the Swindon Town game, Davies told ctlfc.com “It’s important [the team react in the right way] but we don’t want to get caught into that ‘we win a game and everything is fine and we lose a game everything is wrong’.

“I’m not going to go out and just completely change and use this as a singular motivation, we’re going to make sure we focus on us and that continuously happens rather than riding waves and be happy when we’re winning. We have to make sure we’re doing the right things all the time.”

Team News

Captain for the opening day, Mai Butler, has been ruled out of this one due to an eye injury, possibly picked up in the Chesham game.

Davies is set to rotate his team, due to the proximity of the Swindon game. This could see Lauren Kayll return to the starting line-up, with Jess Hood, Ruby Scahill and Courtney Jones all potentially set to receive their full debuts for the club.
Molly Ripley, who featured in the warm-up against Swindon may also see a call up to the squad.

Opposition

The Larks are currently without a manager, with Jay Powell stepping down following a 5-2 trouncing by Swindon Town last weekend, which saw an Ellie Olds hattrick and goals from Megan Attenborough and Riane Lewis cancel out Adele Hooper’s brace.

The opening day saw them claim a point at Plain Ham with a 2-2 draw with Maidenhead Women. Twice the hosts came from behind, with Amanda Blakely and Adele Hooper finding the net to equal the Magpies Natalie Barnes and Simone O’Brien.

Their last outing, against Brislington, on Thursday night, saw them completely overpower their opposition 6-3, scoring all six of their goals within the first 15 minutes of the fixture.

Previous Meetings

The two clubs only met once last season, on September 8, at Plain Ham. Alex Cheal’s side entered the game undefeated, and left with only a point in a game both sides felt they could have won.
With five minutes on the clock, stand-in goalkeeper, Alyta Norman received a red card for an adjudged handball with Charlotte Criddle going in goal and putting on a show to keep the hosts out. The 1-1 draw an impressive display for the 10 Robinesses.

The previous season (18/19) saw the teams meet twice, the first fixture in January 2019, saw the home side run away with a 2-0 win through goals from Annabel Davies and Annie Martin.
The return fixture, the final day of the campaign saw the teams negotiate a 1-1 draw, Amanda Blakeley sealing a point against Annie Martin’s 28th minute strike.
