With the season drawing nearer, three more Robinesses – Kirsten Rendall, Lauren Ellis and Mai Butler – will stay with the club, and they’ll be joined by brand new signing Billie Haynes.
Kirsten Rendall|Defender
A gifted fullback with a fantastic left foot, she would also demonstrate her adaptability by standing in at centre-half alongside Sammy Hallsworth following the club’s centre-back crisis near the end of last season.
Lauren Ellis|Defender/Midfielder
With an underrated right foot, her ability to deliver set pieces was shown in glimpses last season as she scored two free-kicks from distance against Brislington.
Mai Butler|Defender
A leader and organiser on the field, Mai was a rock at the heart of Cheltenham’s defence, as well as being a threat from set pieces which saw her get two goals in her 13 starts.
Billie Haynes|Winger
Haynes joined Wolves Women from Aston Villa Women after Wolves had been promoted to the FA WNL Northern Premier, making 23 appearances and scoring 4 goals. Following relegation to the FAWNL Division One Midlands, Haynes would equal her previous season’s appearances, but this time racking up 14 goals. Last season saw her make 15 appearances for Wolves, contributing four goals.
Reaction
Manager Tom Davies was pleased to confirm the latest players. He told ctlfc.com “Kirsten’s been another one that’s kept everyone going during lockdown. She’s been helping to organise Zoom quizzes and bits to keep together, which is important for what we want to build here. She brings vast experience and quality to the group.
“Lauren is one of the longest serving in the group now. She’s bought into the ideas we’ve put in, she works hard, applies herself in every session and is constantly putting in strong performances.”
Davies was also delighted that centre-back Mai Butler had committed for the season, along with the addition of new signing Billie Haynes.
“I’ve worked with Mai & Billie before when we were all at Wolves Women. We’re all a couple years older, and we’ve improved since then and I’m really excited to see what these two can do in this division.
“Mai’s a natural leader, she’s such a strong defender and will play a key part in our success in this campaign. As will Billie, whose quality and potential are huge. She’s powerful and quick, and she’s really been enjoying her football since her arrival.”
