Pucklechurch Sports Ladies Preview

22nd February 2020

Defending champions of the Gloucestershire FA Women’s Trophy, Cheltenham Town Ladies will travel to Gloucestershire FA’s HQ to face Pucklechurch (4:30pm kick-off) looking to book their place in the semi-final.

Pucklechurch Sports Ladies, lost out 13-0 to The Robinesses at Petersfield Park in this competition last season, when they participated under the name St. Nicholas Ladies Reserves, following the demise of St. Nicholas Ladies’ first team. However, after a reformation with Pucklechurch Sports FC the club has seen a regroup in the Gloucestershire County leagues, and the champions will need to make sure there are no mistakes in order to avoid an upset.

In an interesting turn of events, had CTLFC’s Reserve team overcome Bristol Ladies Union in their County Cup Quarter-Final, the Robinesses’ First and Reserve teams would have faced off for a place in the final. However, this wasn’t to be as the Reserves would lose out 5-3 to BLU, with goalkeeper Molly Ripley picking up a wrist fracture in the process.
Should Cheltenham make it past Pucklechurch, the defending champions will have faced Bristol Ladies Union First and Development teams in this year’s County Cup.

Team News

Cheal’s side is bolstered by the return of winger Sarah King and battling midfielder Alice Kempski after they return from international duty with the English Colleges national team. Georgia Brown returns to the side after her involvement with the Scotland Women’s U19’s camp.

Returning defenders Sam Morris and Chloe Rogers are absent, including winger Sally Butterfield and playmaker Louise Fensome.

Former Super League midfielder Paige Stewart may also return to the side, featuring for the first time since the opening day of the season against Poole.

Opposition

Newly formed Pucklechurch Sports Ladies have enjoyed a positive inaugural season in Gloucestershire County League One, racking up three wins and one draw in their six league games so far.

They enjoyed a good start to the campaign, picking up three points on the opening day at home to Longlevens, before having to settle for a draw against Bristol Ladies Union Development after conceding two goals in as many minutes.

Other big results include a 4-0 win over Forest of Dean Ladies, a result now expunged from the records following the Forest team’s dissolvement during the season, a 6-0 over Dursley Town in the Gordon Perrett League Cup and a 3-0 loss to a top-of-the-table Bristol Rovers.

Their most recent result saw them come out on top 2-0 against Longlevens on January 12th.
