Bristol Ladies Union Development Preview

23rd November 2019

Cheltenham Town Ladies look to put last week’s SSE Women’s FA Cup disappointment behind them as they turn their attention to defending their championship in a local competition – the Gloucestershire FA Women’s County Trophy.

With The Robins’ Development side doing the business against Bristol and West Ladies of Gloucestershire County Division 1, the First Team play host to Bristol Ladies Union Development of the same league, at All Saints Academy (12 noon kick-off)

Last season Cheltenham Town Ladies’ first team were crowned champions after picking up a dominant win in the final, against Frampton Rangers Ladies, 10-0 at Gloucestershire FA Headquarters, having beaten St. Nicholas Ladies Reserves (13-0), Downend Flyers (4-0), AEK Boco Ladies (9-0) and Almondsbury (4-2) in the previous rounds.

This season sees the Robins First Team enter directly into the Second Round. The winner of tomorrow’s game against BLU Development will progress to the Quarter Finals, where they’ll travel to Pucklechurch Ladies in February.

Team News

Cheltenham Town Ladies are set to go with a full strength side, with one or two absentees due to only being able to name three substitutes.

The Robinesses will be without winger Ella Hitchcox, striker Holly Fenton and midfielder Louise Fensome, as manager Alex Cheal has to reduce his FA Cup matchday squad of 17 down to just 14.

Opposition

It’s been a tough season so far the Bristol Ladies Union Development side, who currently find themselves in 7th in Gloucestershire County Divison 1. They have picked up 2 wins and a draw, with 2 losses from their five league games so far this season, with a game in hand on the team directly above them.

The mixed bag of results so far include a 2-2 draw with second-placed Pucklechurch Ladies, and a very close 4-3 loss to the so-far undefeated Bristol Rovers Women.
Their last two results include a 1-0 victory away at Longwell Green Ladies and a 6-3 thriller on the road to Abbeymead Rovers.
