Another top-of-the-league clash for the Robins, which is also a battle of the undefeated teams, as Cheltenham Town Ladies travel back to the south coast to take on the women’s team of Barclay’s Premier League outfit Southampton FC.
Alex Cheal’s side head into tomorrow’s top of the table clash against Southampton looking to continue their unbeaten run, after walking away from their trip to Hampshire last weekend with all three points.
A cool finish from Annie Martin, ten minutes in, before a lightning bolt of a shot from Charlotte Criddle five minutes from time allowed the Robins to pick up a confident looking 2-0 win over then-league leaders, Southampton Women.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s Saints have adapted well to life at a higher standard, after back-to-back promotions from the Southern Regional Women’s Football League. After picking up a string of wins, the only team to take points off of The Saints so far this season is their local rivals Southampton Women, in a 0-0 draw in front of a giant 557 crowd.
Team News
The majority of Alex Cheal’s side remains unchanged.
Holly Fenton is omitted from the squad due to illness, with goalkeeper Bec Panniers returning to the squad, alongside last week’s shot stopper, Robyn Levett.
Centre-backs, Chloe Rogers and Sam Morris remain unavailable but are making progress with their injuries.
Striker Kerry Bartlett remains out of the squad, deemed by the medical team to be not fit enough to return from her achilles injury.
Opposition
Southampton FC have made a good start to life in the Women’s National League after being promoted from the Southern Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division last season.
They find themselves top of the league, with a string of confident victories under their belts, including a 5-2 win over Chesham on the opening day, 6-0 over Ipswich Town in the FAWNL League Cup, 5-0 over strugglers Brislington and 4-0 away to Swindon.
Last week, they jumped to the top of the legaue after overcoming midtable Buckland Athletic, 3-0 at Homers Heath.
Previous Meetings
This is the first competitive meeting in the Women’s National League between the two sides.
The hosts enter into the fixture on the back of a 3-0 win over Buckland Athletic Women, with Cheltenham coming into it fresh off an impressive 2-0 over tomorrow’s neighbours, Southampton Women.
