Cheltenham Town Ladies and Oxford United Women Form Strategic Alliance

31st July 2018

Cheltenham Town Ladies FC are proud to announce a strategic player development partnership with FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division side Oxford United Women.

The partnership will offer young players greater exposure at a senior level and provide a pathway for aspiring players that wish to trial with a former Women’s Super League club.

This is an exciting step for both clubs and also for Ladies’ manager Alex Cheal and his counterpart at Oxford Liam Gilbert as they will share continual professional development as they look to develop their respective off-field structures.

Alex said: “This will give us a pathway that aligns with our newly established link with Hartpury College that provides young players the opportunity to play WNL football. If we feel a player is progressing well then this enables us to push her forward to a higher division quickly and effectively.

“It will help us to identify and nurture future talent within the combined infrastructure of the two clubs.

“With links now in place with Hartpury College, UoG Women’s Football and Oxford United we believe our Club offers unrivalled player development in our region.”

Liam Gilbert added: “I am excited about this partnership with Cheltenham Town Ladies. Having spoken with Alex a number of times they are a Club that shares a similar philosophy to us and they also believe in developing young talent. Together we will be able to create a successful pathway that will help young players progress.”
