A Tribute To Bob Attwood By Manager Graham Fletcher

10th February 2017

On behalf of Cheltenham Town Ladies Football Club, We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Bob Attwood and all at Cheltenham Saracens FC.

And for me personally it’s a sad day. Bob Attwood, was the man who gave me the opportunity to play in youth football then senior men’s football. When I moved Clubs, whenever I saw him he would always tell me off for leaving the Saracens, but was always encouraging and knew how I had been playing.

More recently, with my involvement with Cheltenham Town Ladies, Bob, answered our request when we needed a new pitch in Cheltenham. He allowed us to play at Petersfield Park, made us feel welcome, and would always help and advise me in order for the team to feel at home. Bob’s knowledge of football and football administration was fantastic, and I was always grateful to receive an email or a phone call from him with a bit of advice.

I know he was unwell, but it was still a shock to hear that he had passed away, a sad day for local football in Cheltenham, Bob will be sadly missed. He was a true local hero.

As a mark of respect Cheltenham Town Ladies will wear black armbands for their next two games – away to Southampton Girls & Ladies and at home to Exeter City Ladies on Thursday 16th February when there will also be a minute’s silence.

RIP Bob.
