CTLFC Attend FA WPL Meeting

6th February 2017

CTLFC Manager Graham Fletcher and vice chairman Ian Purvis attended the FA WPL Special General Meeting in Edgbaston, Birmingham last Saturday (4 February) where plans to double the number of participants in the girl’s and women’s football were outlined by the head of the UK women’s game.

“We are immensely proud to be an FA WPL club and it was important that we were represented at this meeting. We share the FA WPL”s vision and believe that we we can play a key role in developing the sport in the region.”

Carol West, chairman of the FA WPL gave a mid-season update to the 100 or so club representatives in the audience before Development Manager Karen Faulkner provided a review of the organisation’s branding and marketing strategy.

This was then followed by a speech from the new head of women’s football Baroness Sue Campbell on developing girl’s and women’s football with the aim of doubling participation in the not too distant future. The Baroness joined the FA in April of last year.

“I am really excited about the opportunity to help shape the future vision and strategy for girls and women’s football,” she has been quoted as saying.

“Great strides have already been made both in terms of grassroots participation and at the elite level. The growth of the FA Women’s Super League and success of the England Lionesses are testimony to that. I am really looking forward to building on the work already done.”
