Cheltenham Town Ladies Development 1-3 Chippenham by Adam Ryman
Cheltenham unfortunately succumbed to a defeat in their first home game of the season on Sunday. The ladies will probably feel a bit aggrieved to lose the match by this score line as the game was very even for long periods. Cheltenham fell behind inside the first minute as some unorganised defending led to an opening goal for Chippenham. Cheltenham grew in to the game well though and forced the opposition goalkeeper in to some fantastic saves. Against the run of play Chippenham grabbed a second though. A short corner was not picked up quick enough and the resulting cross ended up with the Chippenham player heading in well.
The second half was a lot more solid for Cheltenham and the improvements continued all over the pitch. Every player upped their game and the passing was becoming a lot more incisive. Eventually, the good play got it rewards as Holly Rogers (below left)raced on to a through ball and finished calmly to net her fourth goal of the season. As Cheltenham continued to push forward for the equaliser, they were stung by a brilliant curling shot in to the corner from Chippenham to put the game to bed. It was a great effort from the girls after a slow start but the performances are continuing on an upward curve.
A special mention this week goes to Player of the Match Tzara Marriott (above right) who was fantastic in defence. She tackled and battled brilliantly all game and snuffed out many Chippenham chances, well done!
