PREVIEW: Lewes FC Women Away

25th October 2024

Cheltenham Town Women will be looking to build on their impressive FA Women’s National League Plate triumph over Wolves last week when they return to league action to face Lewes on Sunday (October 27, 2pm kickoff).

The Robinesses made it to the Quarter-Finals of the Plate last Sunday after a 2-1 win over second placed FA WNL Northern Premier Division side Wolves at Kayte Lane. Goals from Maisy Collis and Emily Owen gave Cheltenham the lead after 20 minutes, only for Anna Morphet to halve the deficit two minutes later.

Tom Davies’ side held out for a fantastic victory over the Black Country side, inflicting only their third defeat in all competitions this campaign. The Robinesses will travel to FA WNL Division One North side Stockport County in the Last Eight on Sunday December 1.

This Sunday, they return to WNL Southern Premier Division action as they travel to Lewes.  The Rooks currently sit a point and a place above Cheltenham in eighth, with two wins, three draws and four losses to their name so far.

Last time out they narrowly lost 2-1 to fifth placed Billericay Town. Lewes were in the Women’s Championship last term, however they finished in 11th place and subsequently got relegated, six points off 10th placed Reading.

Davies’ side will be looking for their first away league win since August, where they thrashed MK Dons 5-0 at Stadium MK.

After their trip to East Sussex on Sunday, the Robinesses kick off their Adobe Women’s FA Cup journey as they welcome Tier Six side Yeovil Town to Kayte Lane on Sunday November 3. They welcome third placed Ipswich to Bishops Cleeve a week later, and travel to Home Park to face Plymouth Argyle on Sunday November 17.
