Swindon Town Women Game Announced As Student Day

21st February 2020

Cheltenham Town Ladies are delighted to announce that they are making their local derby with Swindon Town a “Student Day”.

The Robins Derby, originally scheduled for a mid-week game in October, was also promoted as “Student Night”, with the club offering free entry to anyone showing a valid student card on the gate. Now, following a number of reschedulings due to cup games taking precedence, the club have decided to honour the original offer to the county’s students.

Excited about the re-introduction of the offer, the club’s Head of PR and Media, Dan Lodge, commented “Originally we offered free entry to students for the Swindon game cause a local derby is always a really fun and exciting event, but unfortunately we weren’t able to make it happen, because the pitch was waterlogged.

“We’ve had a few enquiries as to whether the offer would roll over to this rescheduled fixture and we’ve decided to answer those calls.
It wasn’t something we thought about when we were given the new date, so it’s fantastic that this comes purely from popular demand.

“We want to make women’s football accessible to as many people as possible, and as a student myself, I know all too well how little costs can eventually add up, so we’re delighted to honour our original offer for free entry for anyone with a valid university ID card.

“Our message to Gloucestershire’s students is clear, local derbies like this one are more than just a regular match and we need you to grab some friends, maybe even bring your university society or sports team along, get behind the team and be the 12th player!

“We look forward to welcoming as many students as possible to The Big Local Stadium on March 1st, and have ourselves a cracking local derby with a real buzz around the ground.”
