Reserves vs Almondsbury Report

1st October 2019

Almondsbury 1
CTLFC Reserves 0

by Ben Ware

Sunday saw the development side travel to Almondsbury looking to build on their first win of the season, and they did, in every case but the score.

Cheltenham enjoyed the greater share of possession, controlling large spells of the first half against an Almondsbury side who failed a get a foot hold in the game.
A frustrating half ended 1-0 to Almondsbury after Cam Cheal’s side were caught ball watching and the home side capitalised to go ahead.

Half Time: Almondsbury 1-0 CTLFC Reserves

The Robins again held a good level of possession following the half time break but just couldn’t get that all important goal. Naomi Marshall, Leonie Gough and captain, Jess Wadey (pictured), all had good chances but the ball someone stayed out.

Caitlin Marron, who was on the receiving end of a lot of Almondsbury’s attention, had the ball in the net midway through the second half but it was ruled out for offside after some deliberation with the assistant.

Marron’s chance proved to be the closest Cheltenham would get as the game finished 1-0 to the hosts. A very good performance but not the result to match.

CTLFC Reserves: M. Ripley, A. Symanowski, A. Barker, E. Simpson, N. Sullivan, H. Galpin, R. Smith, C. Marron, J. Wadey, A. Boyce, L. Gough. Substitutes (rolling subs): N. Marshall, H. Dix, B. Young, D. Toth, L. Amarquaye

Reaction

Reserves coach Ben Ware was disappointed not to have been able to bag all three points.
“We played well today, we had a lot of possession but we just couldn’t do anything with it. It was a good performance and it was great to see, it was just frustrating that it ended how it did. The general consensus seemed to be that we should have come away with 3 points.

“It’s a lesson learned today, we made chances, we just needed to take them. We were solid at the back and defended well, just that one goal proving to be the difference”

“What is important is that we’ve shown how well we can play. It was a very good performance and we were happy to see it, it shows that something special is coming. It might be next week, might even be the week after, or the week after that, but we are due a big, standout performance”
